links in markup - created in Streams and looked at in Hubzilla

There seems to be a problem with links in markup when the link was created in Streams (ok) and is looked at under Hubzilla (nok).

Example:

Hubzilla by default does not parse markdown

Thanks! I guess this feature is available in Streams only?

If yes, thanks for the reminder! I will use it only "inside" Streams (my family members).

I tried to separate Hubzilla and streams rendering of content by declaring a new content mediaType (x-multicode), which would have fixed this; but Hubzilla was updated soon there-after to process multicode by pretending it's bbcode (it is not) and thwarted my efforts. To be truly effective, we need Hubzilla to ignore multicode since that platform is unable to process it. This will introduce some Zot/Nomad differences in a couple of things like maps and E2EE encrypted blocks but most everything else will be fine.

Perhaps the best way forward it to provide both of these troublesome constructs as attachments or tags as we are starting to do for other embeds. Then Hubzilla could maybe just ignore multicode and use the HTML as I originally intended.

There is also an issue with "viewer-aware content" using observer tags, but we hardly ever use these in streams and I would be quite happy to remove them for greater fediverse compatibility.

I really like this personally. It always feels "fresh" and "surprising" to me, unique. I guess the main use is in webpages or wikis and not in posts and comments. So why keep it if it is a constant cause of error messages and effort? Hmm
